Gallica is the digital library of the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), one of the major digital libraries available for free via the Internet. It provides access to any type of document: printed documents (books, press and magazines) in image and text mode, manuscripts, sound and iconographic documents, maps and plans.
The 2023 calendar of the ELTE University Library and Archives presents the Jesuit missions of the early modern period through some of the library's museum publications.
The pages of the calendar offer an insight into the diversity of our collections and cultural assets, and pay tribute to the 300th anniversary of the birth of George Pray. As the founder of Hungarian critical historiography and director of the University Library, the Jesuit monk also enriched the library's holdings with his private collection, which we keep as a treasure in our manuscript archive. The representative wall calendar was published under the management of the Prime Minister’s Office, with the support of the National Cooperation Fund, the Bethlen Gábor Fund Management Ltd. and the Foundation for the University Library.

On the 1st of September 2022, the ELTE University Library and Archives organised the tenth conference entitled Traditions and Challenges. This year's programme included presentations on the themes of Preserve, Protect, Serve and Preservation Practices in Higher Education Libraries.
The event was followed by a wide range of participants, with nearly 130 guests, practitioners, students and representatives of service partners attending our programmes. Annamária Gombos Dr. Kulcsár Szabó Ernőné, Director General of the ELTE University Library and Archives, and Dr. László Borhy, Rector of Eötvös Loránd University, welcomed the participants.
Following the opening speeches, Annamária Gombos Dr. Kulcsár Szabó Ernőné, Director General of the University Library, drew attention to the protection of public collections through the University Library and Lieutenant Colonel István Elekes shared his experiences from the perspective of investigative work. In his presentation, Dávid Rózsa, Director General of the National Széchényi Library, informed the professional audience about the defence tasks of the National Széchényi Library and the details of the action plan. Lieutenant Colonel Tünde Berek Havasné, Head of the Military History Library, gave a presentation on the topic of „Asset protection and information protection in the defence environment and in the Military History Library”. The morning plenary session was closed by Márton Endre Sándor, Public Procurement Officer from the Eötvös Loránd University, who presented the procurement issue in the light of the legislation.
Moderated by Katalin Keveházi (retired Director General of the Klebelsberg Kuno Library, University of Szeged), the afternoon session provided an insight into the work of Gábor Farkas (Committee on Cultural Goods) on the protection of cultural goods, and Pál Tömöry presented the collection and asset protection system at the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Diána Horváth (OSZK) gave an overview of the workflow restructuring in the national library, and Tibor Frankovics presented the security systems of the Hungarian National Museum. Enikő Szabó Pergéné (DEENK) shared her experiences on the use of RFID. István Sipos (Softlink Ltd.) spoke about library stock protection supported by RFID devices, while Dániel Bedő (Tripont Foto Video Ltd.) presented the practical aspects of digitisation in the field of heritage protection.
The session on Acquisition Practices in Higher Education Libraries was moderated by Anikó Ézsaiás (BME OMIKK), during which Gábor Kiss presented the acquisition practices of the library network of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Szabolcs Hoczopán, Anita Nagy and Nikoletta Puskás of the Klebelsberg Library of the University of Szeged, and Tünde Székelyné Török of the ELTE libraries. Éva Csirmazné Rezi (OSZK) presented the application of the legal deposit law, and Frigyes Janzer (Prospero Könyvei Kft.) gave an insight into the experiences and good practices related to the acquisition of foreign printed books. Under the title „Rialto – One-stop-shop acquisition based on the Alma”, Éva Czeglédi (ProQuest) held a presentation on current developments, Tibor Gál, Director of the Directorate General for Public Procurement and Supply, spoke about the press product supply services, and Lőrinc Simon (Library Services Non-Profit Ltd.) offered a presentation on the support for stock accumulation.
Our guests had the opportunity to join a presentation of the restoration workshop of the ELTE University Library and Archives, a workshop of Tripont Foto Video Ltd. and a round table discussion with the invited service providers to conclude our programme.
The conference was supported by the Foundation for the University Library, the College of University Library Directors, the Social Sciences Section and the Academic and Specialised Library Section of the Hungarian Association of Librarians, ProQuest, Qulto, Softlink and Tripont. The ELTE University Library and Archives is planning to publish a conference volume on the 10th Professional Day „Traditions and Challenges”, which will also be available in electronic form in the ELTE EDIT repository.
The latest issue of the university history journal Gerundium (vol. 13., nos. 3–4.) contains several studies on the history of our university. Péter Tusor provides new data on the question of papal recognition of the university's foundation in Nagyszombat (today: Trnava, Slovakia) in 1635, Zsolt Kökényesi describes the aristocratic students who studied at the University of Nagyszombat between 1616 and 1773, László Szögi analyses the composition, social stratification and changes in the number of students at the University of Nagyszombat, Krisztina Tóth explains the circumstances of the tragic destruction of the university’s records in the 1950s.

Includes textbooks on comparative constitutional law, corporate law and corporate governance, criminal law, international human rights law, Islamic law, jurisprudence and legal philosophy, the US Constitution, and US health law.
The Foreign Law Guide (FLG) is a well-known resource for librarians, researchers, law students, and practicing professionals interested in foreign and comparative law. The printed edition originated in the 1990s and transitioned to the internet in 2000. The regularly updated database provides information on the legal systems and current legal sources of 190 countries worldwide, presented in both the original language and English translation.
New volume, Practices of Research Data Management: Established procedures and pilot projects has been published by the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and it is available online for free.
The volume can provide ideas and help to those who want to conduct their research according to the principles of open science, or who is expected by research funders to do open data management.

As of January 1st 2023, the L'Harmattan Digital Database will be available under a new name and at a new location that is the L'Harmattan Open Access és Archive platform.
The L'Harmattan Archive is a database of professionally controlled scientific content, the quality of the publications is guaranteed by the editorial offices of cooperating universities and research institutes. The L'Harmattan Archive will provide 300+ books from January 1, 2023, 600 from March 2023, and 1,000 from June 2023.
L'Harmattan's Open Access platform is new, where 47 publications are currently available without restriction. The database can be accessed from ELTE's IP domains or with a VPN service. The development of eduID access is underway and is expected in the second quarter of 2023.
Several valuable objects of ELTE can be viewed in the temporary exhibition entitled Magyar EXPO successes 1851-2021.
In 1898 Loránd Eötvös made two copies of the torsion balance which are known today as the ”Paris balance” and the ”Balaton balance”; they are distinguished on the bases of the locations they were used mostly. The balance owned by the ELTE Department of Materials Physics (on the left side of the photo) won a gold medal in Paris in 1900, so it was given a special place in the exhibition showing Hungarian successes achieved at world’s fairs. Next to it, the Eötvös-Rybár balance (E 54) can be seen: its development was carried out by István Rybár, a former colleague of Eötvös Loránd, also at the university, and the invention received the grand prize at the Brussels World’s Fair held in 1958. The various types of Eötvös balances made a significant contribution to the exploration of oil and natural gas fields worldwide in the 20th century. Thus, several copies of the type marked E 54 have already been made, the object for the exhibition was provided by the Hungarian Museum of Technology and Transport.
From the material of the Eötvös Museum of ELTE, nummulites from the collection of Miksa Hantken were presented. These won a medal of merit at the world’s fair held in Vienna in 1873. Mining engineer Miksa Hantken was the first head of the Institute of Paleontology, founded in 1882, and donated his paleontological objects from his field collections to the university.
