University Library Service Update – From 2nd of November available services of the ELTE University Library and Archives

Our library welcomes visitors from 2nd of November 2020 with extended opening hours and comprehensive services.

New opening hours:

Information Desk, Borrower Services from 9 am to 6 pm on working days
Researcher Room   from 9 am to 6 pm on working days
Main Reading Room  from 9 am to 8 pm on working days

Important changes:

  • the Rental spaces are reopened to readers;
  • the free-shelf stock is freely accessible again;
  • the Main Reading Room welcomes those who wish to study until 8 pm., without online booking.

We still ask for your cooperation:

In order to use the library safely, and to protect yourself and the health of others, we would like to draw your kind attention to the following rules:

  • wear a mask covering both the mouth and the nose,
  • after entering the library use the external hand sanitizer,
  • keep a distance of 1.5 m in the library.

Our services:

Register and renew membership (also available online)

  • You can initiate registration and renewal of membership by using the ELTE Library WebApp application and arrange it in person at the Information Desk and at the Borrower Service.

Book rental service:

  • Books from the bookstack requested online, by email  ( or in person can be picked up at the Borrower Service within two working days. We will notify you of the receipt of the books on the library's customer call display or via ELTE Library WebApp.
  • Open shelf files are available again, but they can still be retrieved and booked online.
  • With our renewed catalog, the ELTEfind search engine, it is possible again to search not only library documents, but also the contents of EDIT (ELTE Digital Institutional Knowledge Base) and subscribed databases.
  • Books returned from rental will be reissued after a 72-hour quarantine.
  • You are still able to check your library loans and debts via ELTE Library WebApp or via ELTEfind.

Book return service:

  • Books can be returned in person at the Information Desk, by post, or dropping them into the book drop station by the entrance of the University Library during the opening hours.

Local library services:

  • In-Library-Use-Only items are only available in the Reading Rooms.
  • The documents from our special collection are researchable in the Researcher Room. You have also the opportunity to request information about the use of special collection documents at the email address:

Reprographic services:

  • Self-service printing and copying is available for our readers in the Journal Reading Room.
  • Our library offers a range of copying services (printing, scanning, digitization, photocopying) at the Information Desk or in the Literature Reading Room.

Device Use:

  • Computers in the Literary Reading Room are available for searching the catalog. Internet use is provided on the computers in the Journal Reading Room.
  • You can also borrow an external battery (power bank) for your own devices during the time spent in the library.
