In Christmas time 2023, Ildikó Balogh, the Public Services Department's Information Librarian, and Katalin Herendi, the Head of the General Secretariat, were awarded the Pro Bibliotheca Universitatis Certificate of Merit by the ELTE University Library and Archives, thanking them for their high quality and prestigious professional work.

The ELTE University Library and Archives offers extended opening hours for readers and students on weekdays and Saturdays between the 4th of December and the 20th of January 2023 until 22.00 hours. Our training room will also be available, providing free computer access and learning opportunities.

Save a book, adopt it! Our volume presented in December is the work of the Jesuit theologian Gábor Szerdahelyi (1660–1726), which is one of the highlights of the book adoption program of the University Library Foundation.

On October 16, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences published the document entitled „Proposals for the Handling of Articles for Journals that Engage in Objectionable Practices” containing numerous recommendations. In the case of articles published in 2024, the MTMT will use the the journal classification of the Norwegian Register. For publications and journals published in Hungarian and in Hungarian journals, the Committee of MTA did not support the use of the Norwegian list. The most famous publication of the first printing house in Hungary is the Chronica Hungarorum (Buda Chronicle), produced by András Hess for the eve of Pentecost on the 5th of June 1473, the original version preserved in our library is also notable for the fact that the edition never left the territory of historic Hungary. For the 550th anniversary of the Buda Chronicle in 2023, we have created a virtual exhibition based on our chamber exposition, on display between June and September 2023.

The application effectively supports scholarly research by making search results of the library's EBSCO subscriptions quickly available anytime, anywhere through an easy-to-use interface. Users can read or listen the content they're looking for. They can view it in PDF- and HTML-formats, and they can download and read EBSCO eBooks wherever they are.

EBSCO has offered trial access to the SocINDEX with Full Text database, that is available on the EBSCOhost platform until the 31st of December 2023. SocINDEX is the authoritative bibliographic database for sociology research. The database offers indexed records from top sociology journals covering many related studies.

The database includes bibliographical data for 1,500,000 dissertations and theses, all of which are accessible in full text. The database and EBSCOhost, when connected to the ELTE internet network directly or through the use of VPN services, are accessible both on and off-campus.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, in 1773, Pope Clement XIII dissolved the Jesuit order, accelerating the process of the university's transfer to the state. Between 1635 and 1773, many distinguished Jesuits of great knowledge taught at our university, leaving a lasting mark on the history of the institution. In October our feature is on the three times rector of our university, the former director of our library, László Sennyey.
